What Nexus Point Family Foundation has built for new and expecting parents
- The Family Barter System. Families in your county give away cribs, strollers, clothes and other essentials to other families for free. You can browse without an account, and posting or claiming an item takes a free one. When someone claims your item or messages you, the site emails you, and the two of you arrange the pickup through private messages on the site. See the board.
- Safety rules for baby gear on that board. Car seats and booster seats can't be posted, because a used seat can have crash damage you can't see, an expiration date that has passed, or an open recall. Cribs, bassinets and play yards can be posted only if they meet the 2011 federal standard (no drop-side rails), have every screw and bolt, have no missing or cracked slats, and have no open recall. Inclined sleepers and padded crib bumpers are banned products and can't be posted. All of these rules are in the board's community guidelines.
- A county directory of family help. For Missouri it lists 1,300 places and programs across 114 counties, grouped by need, with sections such as diapers and baby supplies and maternal and infant health. Browse Missouri by county.
- A page for pregnancy and new parent support. It brings together the free item board, the county programs for health, food, housing and child care, and a petition supporting the Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act. See the page.
- Renewal reminders. You enter your programs and their renewal dates, and it emails you 30, 14 and 3 days before each date with the papers to gather, then once afterward to ask whether it went through. It doesn't need an account and it's free.
